The Lake-Sumter Computer Society is a community of people who share similar interests in computers and technology. This group meets on Thursday afternoons, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall building at LSCC. It is open to any students, faculty, or staff of LSCC, as well as citizens of Lake and Sumter counties. The purpose of the society is to give members the opportunity to learn current computer technology skills, and become proficient with all things computer related.
In a typical meeting, a guest speaker will discuss current computer trends or applications, and/or group members will share tips with each other about PC uses in areas including photography, genealogy, or computer security and malware prevention. LSCS President, Roger Ehrig, recommends this society to ?anyone with an interest in learning about and staying current with trends in computer technology? in a highly social environment.? Visitors are always welcome.?
The Lake-Sumter Computer Society website, www.lscs.us, has information on how to join the group. There are no fees for members associated with the college. Outside members have membership dues. According to LSCS sponsor, Mary Jo Rager, ?since its inception, through their membership dues, the LSCS has contributed over $14,000 in scholarships to Lake-Sumter Community College students.? The club currently has 144 members and loves bringing in guest speakers who are willing to share their computer experience. Members have varying levels of computer experience from beginner to proficient. If you are interested in joining the society, or being a guest speaker, contact Roger Ehrig at President1@lscs.us.
