Brittney Griner has dominated women's basketball all season.

Now the 6-foot-8 junior phenom is a unanimous selection to The Associated Press' All-America team Tuesday, a day after leading the unbeaten Lady Bears to their second Final Four in three seasons.

She was joined on the squad by Stanford's Nnemkadi Ogwumike, Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Delaware's Elena Delle Donne and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas.

"That would be a very strong team," Griner said. "I feel sorry for anyone who would have to play us."

Griner, who was on the first team for the second straight year, hasn't taken pity on her opponents. She has the Lady Bears two wins away from becoming the first team in NCAA history to go 40-0.

"I would never have thought it would be like this. It's amazing," Griner said. "Sometimes you forget what you've done. You don't sit back and enjoy it as you're so focused on a goal. It definitely has been a great year so far. I hope it finishes the right way, too."

Griner has been incredible all season, but raised her game over the past month. She's averaging 23.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.2 blocks this season. Throw in two incredible dunks in the NCAA tournament and she's been unstoppable.

Griner and Ogwumike received 200 points and were unanimous choices by the 40-member national media panel that votes in the weekly Top 25. It's the fifth straight season that there has been at least one unanimous choice. Voting was done before the NCAA tournament.

Ogwumike, who averaged 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds, had been on the second team the past two seasons and was thrilled to make the first team this year. Yet she was more excited that her sister Chiney earned second team honors.

"Not a lot of people can say they play with their sister and win an award," the Stanford senior forward said. "I'm really proud of Chiney. She even has more to grow on as she's only a sophomore. For her to be one of the top players in the country as a sophomore is remarkable."

The Ogwumikes became the first sisters to be All-Americans in the same season. In 2009, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris earned first team honors while her sister was honorable mention. Kelly Miller of Georgia made the first team in 2001 while her sister Coco was honorable mention. It's never happened on the men's side, either.

Diggins became the first Notre Dame player to make the first team since Ruth Riley did it in consecutive years in 2000 and 2001. The junior guard was instrumental in helping the Irish win their first outright Big East regular season championship, averaging 16.6 points and 5.7 assists. Diggins knows that she'd probably have a lot more assists if she was playing with this All-American squad.

"I'd love to be the floor general for that team," Diggins said. "I'd probably average 20 assists. I can tell you right now, we'd be undefeated, we'd win every game by double digits."

Delle Donne carried Delaware to unprecedented heights this season. The 6-foot-5 junior led the nation in scoring averaging 28.1 points. She helped the Blue Hens go undefeated in the Colonial Athletic Association, win the conference tournament for the first time and earn their first Top 25 ranking. She capped off the season by getting the Blue Hens their first NCAA tournament victory.

Now she's the school's initial first team All-American. She was on the third team two seasons ago.

"This is truly a great honor to be considered among the top women's basketball players in the country," Delle Donne said. "I am proud to represent the University of Delaware and I share this honor with my teammates and the coaching staff. Although the season ended earlier than we had hoped, this past year is one that I will always remember."

Thomas guided Maryland to the ACC tournament championship and was the conference's player of the year as a sophomore. She also has helped the Terrapins reach the NCAA tournament regional final.

"This is such an honor to be named an AP All-American as a sophomore because there's so many great players in the country."

Joining Chiney Ogwumike on the second team were Baylor sophomore Odyssey Sims, Miami senior Shenise Johnnson, Ohio State senior Samantha Prahalis and Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Julie Wojta.

The third-team members: Connecticut senior Tiffany Hayes, Kentucky junior A'dia Mathies, Duke freshman Elizabeth Williams, Tennessee senior Shekinna Stricklen and Miami senior Riquna Williams.

It marked only the second time since the All-America team was first honored in 1995 that no Tennessee or Connecticut player made either the first or second team. It also happened in 2005.

The preseason All-America team was Griner, Diggins, Ogwumike, Johnson and Stricklen.

Tickets scarce for NCAA women's Final Four and online prices sky-high

Waco accountant Richard Kaga, 63, already has booked rooms in Denver, and made flight reservations to take him and three others to the NCAA Women?s Final Four basketball tournament the first week of April.

Now all he needs are a couple of tickets.

Kaga loves the Lady Bears and just knows they will win their way to the Final Four. He and his wife, Betty, and two close friends began planning this trip right after the team lost to Texas A&M during regionals last year.

He never dreamed that getting into the 19,028-seat Pepsi Center to watch the games would prove daunting. He is a member of the Baylor Bear Foundation and owned four season tickets to watch the 2011-12 Lady Bears.

But tickets to the biggest games in the Big Dance are proving more scarce than off-nights by junior post Brittney Griner.

If Baylor reaches the Final Four, it and three other teams will receive 700 tickets apiece to distribute as they wish.

The school can give each player up to four tickets. Others may go to the school?s traveling party, band members and administrators, leaving the balance for season-ticket holders and Bear Foundation members.

?We have requests and commitments for more than 700 tickets. So as things stand now, we will not have any go on sale to the public,? said Matt Johnson, assistant athletic director for ticket operations.

Because of Kaga?s longtime support of Baylor athletics, the school offered him the opportunity to apply for two tickets. He needed four, so he declined the invitation and is pursuing tickets through other sources.

?I don?t blame Baylor; I blame the NCAA for making so few tickets available to each team,? said Kaga, whose allegiance to the school goes back decades.

His parents had season tickets to Baylor football games beginning in the 1960s, and he has had season tickets to the Lady Bears since coach Kim Mulkey arrived in 2000.

General public

The NCAA said Thursday that besides allocating 2,800 tickets to teams that reach the Final Four, it made more than 6,000 tickets available to the general public. They lasted about as long as an Odyssey Sims-led fast break.

Other tickets are set aside for corporate sponsors, NCAA officials and host-city invitees.

Still, there are websites and ticket-exchange outlets for fans willing to splurge.

?I?ve been going online, and I was surprised at just how many tickets there are out there. But be prepared to pay,? said De Ann Smith, executive director of a Baylor athletic support group called Bear Force One.

She said various sites were offering single tickets for $360, or a pair of tickets for $500 to $700. Smith said one offer that caught her attention was $1,700 for a single seat in the Pepsi Center?s lower level.

The face value of single tickets for the Final Four is $125 for the balcony, $150 for the club level and $185 for the lower level.

Tickets give fans seats for the two semifinal games April 1 and the championship April 3.

The website centextickets.com is offering three-game tickets for ?$400 and up,? according to a spokesman who asked that his name not be used. He said he is seeing more demand for Final Four women?s tickets than in the past.

?It?s probably because there is a team in this area trying to win it all and go undefeated,? said the spokesman, referring to the surging Lady Bears. ?I have a local customer base.?

?This is a great problem to have,? Smith said. ?I?m excited that Baylor has arrived at the point (where) tickets are a rarity.?

She added that a source told her prices for Final Four tickets may drop as teams get eliminated between now and April 1.

For example, she said, the Tennessee Volunteers, a perennial power, have made it to the Sweet 16 and are competing in the same Des Moines, Iowa, regional as Baylor. If Tennessee gets eliminated and has no chance to advance to Denver, Vols fans who had bought Final Four tickets likely will sell them for whatever they can get.

Rick Nixon, associate director with NCAA Championships and Alliances, said those desperate to attend the Final Four can visit PrimeSport.com, which is identified as the NCAA?s official ticket exchange site.

A visit there Thursday revealed several single tickets priced at $360. One seller was offering up to 11 tickets priced at $675 each, while another advertised six tickets for $1,260 apiece.

Nixon said the NCAA earmarked tickets for the organization in Denver planning to host the championship games. Fans can inquire about spares at www.denversports.org.

NBA size

The NCAA, Nixon said, wants to host women?s Final Four games in arenas of ?NBA size.? The Pepsi Center serves as home to the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association.

And Texas A&M University won the title last year in the 18,165-seat Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., where the NBA?s Indiana Pacers play.

The Alamodome in San Antonio, a football stadium that can accommodate 39,500 for basketball, hosted the Final Four in 2010, when Baylor was eliminated by the Connecticut Huskies.

?We believe the NBA arenas are the right-size venue for our championship right now, in terms of the overall experience we want to provide the fans,? said the NCAA?s Nixon.

But fans like Waco?s Kaga said the smaller sites sometimes force ticket hunters to take desperate measures.

He secured two tickets for $500 from an individual selling online. He met another seller through Craigslist and made a similar deal for two more tickets, giving him the four he needed.

?But I got scammed,? he said. ?I sent the money via Western Union, though Craigslist clearly warns users not to do that. The deal sounded authentic. My money was supposed to go to an intermediary who would get the tickets released when my money arrived. I?ve heard nothing since.?

He said Western Union ?was sympathetic,? but it could do nothing to remedy the situation. Kaga said he agreed to share his story as a warning to use caution when pursuing tickets online.

?Now I need two more tickets,? he said. ?This was a setback, but we will be at that game.?

Considering a Pet Bird? Ask Yourself These 7 Critical Questi - All Biz ...

Considering a Pet Bird? Ask Yourself These 7 Critical Questi

Birds can make wonderful pets and companions and there are many different birds to choose from. Two of the most popular are cockatiels and parakeets. Cockatiels and parakeets make wonderful pets that only require simple daily care. They don?t take up a lot of space, they eat small amounts of food, and they don?t require a daily walk outside. They love being around people and often want out of their cages just so they can be closer to you. Some even learn to talk.

You?re not alone in considering a pet bird. In fact, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA), birds are the 3rd most popular pet behind cats and dogs.

It all sounds great doesn?t it? Slow down a little bit, before you rush out to buy a cockatiel or a parakeet, take some time to think about whether or not you are ready for a bird companion. There are a few things for you to consider before you decide if you?re ready for the responsibilities that comes with parakeets and cockatiels.

Do yourself a favor and don?t buy a parakeet or cockatiel until you ask yourself the following questions:

Do I have enough patience for a bird? Cockatiels and parakeets are social animals and they like attention. You should give them at least a half an hour of attention a day to keep them happy.

Am I a neat freak? All birds (not just cockatiels and parakeets) can be fairly messy. You?re probably going to have some feathers and bird seed to pick up around the cage.

Can I care for my bird properly? You?re taking the right first step by looking for information about birds. It?s important for you to know all of your cockatiel?s or parakeet?s needs before you bring him or her home.

Don?t make the mistake of assuming that since you already have a dog, cat or some other pet, that you know how to take care of a bird. Birds have very different needs than other pets. I?m afraid it?s a little more complicated than sticking your bird in a cage and giving it water and birdseed.

Do I have room in my house for a bird cage and other ?bird accessories?? You need to think about where you?re going to place the cage in your house before you walk in the door with it. And remember, the bigger the bird, the bigger the cage. (Be sure to study the do?s and don?t of cage placement. There are places in your house that are very dangerous for your bird.)

Do I have the time to give my bird what it needs? In addition to the time you should spend with your bird giving him or her attention, you should spend some time preparing meals for your bird. A proper diet for a healthy cockatiel or parakeet includes fresh vegetables and fruits ? not just seeds.

Exactly what type of bird (and how many) do I want? Decide whether you want a female or a male bird. Maybe you would like to have a pair of birds so that you can breed them. It?s easier to think through these types of questions now instead of waiting until you?re talking to a breeder.

Am I ready for a long-term commitment? As I said above, it?s not unusual for cockatiels to live 15-20 years and parakeets can live 12-14 years. Getting a pet bird is a long-term commitment. Please don?t get a cockatiel or a parakeet thinking that you?re going to ?try it for a while?. There are already too many birds in rescue and adoption centers.

Pet birds can bring a lot of fun and happiness into your home. If you don?t know what to expect before you bring one home, you may be in for a surprise. However, if you?ve gone through the checklist above and decided that you?re ready for a new feathered family member, then congratulations! Get ready for a long, loving and happy relationship.

Natural Remedies for Multiple Sclerosis | Health and Fitness

Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disorder as the disease affects various parts of the central nervous system by way of destroying the myelin sheaths that cover the nerves. The destruction of the myelin sheaths leaves a form of scar tissues called plaque and this plaque destroys the nerves by hardening them, a process called ?sclerosis.?

Now, as an autoimmune disorder, this would presuppose that the cells of the body, white blood cells to be exact, attack the myelin sheaths as if they were foreign invaders or substances. Anytime you have white blood cell activity, you have toxicity (of something foreign) on the scene. And when the cells begin to attack the body, you have dharma in the body whereby there is a separation ? the cells see themselves as separate from the body and begin to attack the body.

Sclerosis means ?hardening.? Is not arteriosclerosis a hardening of the arteries? Yes it is. And what makes the arteries harden up? Is it not arterial plaque and mucus? Of course it is! Well, it?s the exact thing with Multiple Sclerosis.

With Multiple Sclerosis, you have a hardening of the nerves in the brain due to excess plaque and mucus which dries up.

This plaque and mucus hardens up in the brain and on top of the myelin sheaths (protective nerve coverings) and because this plaque and mucus is acidic, it causes inflammation and the inflammation burns through the myelin sheaths and it is this activity that affects the nerves. It is the equivalent of removing the plastic coating from wire exposing the copper. If water gets on the copper of the wire, what happens, especially when what the wire is connected to is activated or turned on? Answer: It will affect the device that is activated by the wire and malfunction of the device will occur. With Multiple Sclerosis, there will be a malfunction with the human device (body).

In a nutshell, this is what Multiple Sclerosis is and now, this makes healing from Multiple Sclerosis much easier because now we have understanding of the particular problem or pathology. Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that can be healed. You just have to remain consistent with the therapy (remedy).

Diet cannot be overlooked in Multiple Sclerosis. Acid creates mucus and nothing produces more acid or acidic byproduct waste than the big three of meat (Uric Acid), dairy, (Lactic Acid), and Starch (Carbonic Acid) of which many of our diets are composed of.

I can?t forget about the connection between aluminum and Multiple Sclerosis. It is true that aluminum deposits collect and store in the brain (within the plaque and mucus). Aluminum (and other toxic heavy metals) has rightly been implicated in Multiple Sclerosis. And no herb counteracts aluminum buildup in the body better than the herb GOTU KOLA.

Gotu Kola itself contains trace amounts of bio-aluminum and because of this, when inside the body, it naturally attracts aluminum oxide unto itself and takes it out of the body. Gotu Kola is one of the best herbs for the brain and memory. It works well with Gingko Biloba!

HEALING FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

The sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis should say goodbye to consuming meat, dairy products, and refined grains and starches; in addition to sugar, salt, soda pop, wine/spirits, coffee, all products containing vinegar, and chemical additives (preservatives, flavor enhancers, etc.) to name a few.

Diseased conditions always help to be eradicated or healed when a raw foods and vegan diet and lifestyle is embraced.

Drinking vegetable juice (green veggies) daily will help to loosen up hardened mucus and plaque stuck to the myelin sheaths. Vegetables are very alkaline and greatly counteract acidity throughout the body.

Herbs that counteract mucus by liquefying it for purposes of release from the body include: Mullein Leaf, Yerba Sante, Fenugreek Seed, Comfrey Root, Hyssop, Elecampane, and Talisadi.

Trulyherbs.com has a formula called Mucus Reducer. In addition to Mucus Reducer, we offer its counterpart, Acid Neutralizer. These two formulas work great together in busting up and expelling mucus from the body.

Herbs that heal the central nervous system include: Kava Kava, Yerba Mat?, Passionflower, Valerian Root, Jatamansi, Blue Vervain, Cinnamon, and Lady?s Slipper. TrulyHerbs.Com offers three formulas that can help heal the central nervous system and brain: (1) Brain Flow, (2) Calming Formula, and (3) Central Nervous System Formula.

Lady?s Slipper herb (a/k/a Nerve Root) is by far the best herb available for healing from Multiple Sclerosis. It will help one heal from any nervous system disorder (considering one changes ones diet, lifestyle, and thought process) and no other herb helps to repair and rebuild damaged myelin like Lady?s Slipper.

Herbs that increase circulation throughout the body include: Cayenne, Ginger, Butcher?s Broom, Gingko Biloba, Holy (or Blessed) Thistle, and Gotu Kola.

Deep breathing exercises are helpful for the Multiple Sclerosis sufferer. Deep breathing will enhance and increase oxygen flow and chi to the brain (as well throughout the whole body).

The healing begins once one believes the disease is healable and you yourself (if a sufferer of the disease) believe you can be healed.

Faith (in healing) is essential to the healing process. When people don?t heal from a disease, they often times lack the necessary faith and willpower to heal. All modalities must work in harmony. Prayer, belief and faith are also necessary.

Modified diet alone will not heal you. Modified lifestyle alone will not heal you. Thought alone will not heal you. You have to put all the necessary constituents of healing together to successfully heal.

First you start thinking healing and positive thoughts. Then you start visualizing yourself in a healthy and healed state. Then you develop a strong faith and belief in your healing and full recovery. This usually leads to inspiration to do better (now that you know better) which leads you to change (improve) your diet and lifestyle. Every individual act you do in one area enhances and compliments the other areas.

Eating healthy and feeling good about what you eat positively affects your thought process and your faith and belief. This in turn positively affects your lifestyle. This in turn positively affects your emotions and how you feel about yourself. And your body responds in a positive fashion to all of this.

This is the process of true healing!

It?s a very positive cycle, people, and it can be done. All you have to do is give it a try. You see, nothing beats a failure but an attempt (try), and really, there are no failures, just results, maybe one you don?t desire, but still, at least you receive the necessary information to continue learning and continuing to change for the better.

Thank you for reading!

Researchers in Wales and the United States have collaborated to complete the first high-resolution, comprehensive genetic map of a promising energy crop called miscanthus. The results published in the current edition of the peer-reviewed, online journal PLoS One provide a significant breakthrough towards advancing the production of bioenergy.

The breakthrough results from the long-term collaboration between energy crop company Ceres, Inc., based in Thousand Oaks, California, USA, and the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University in Wales. The IBERS team created the collection of genetically related plants and Ceres then sequenced and analyzed the DNA. In other crops, this type of comprehensive genetic mapping has significantly shortened product development timelines.

As published in the journal article, Ceres researchers mapped all 19 chromosomes of miscanthus, a towering cane-like grass that can be used as a feedstock for advanced biofuels, bio-products and biopower. The multi-year project involved generation and analysis of more than 400 million DNA sequences creating a blueprint of the genetic alphabet of the plant.

Among the massive volumes of data, researchers found 20,000 genetic differences, called markers, that allow geneticists to differentiate individual plants based on small variations in their DNA. More than 3,500 of these markers were used to create the genetic map, and are valuable for crop improvement purposes. In contrast, previously announced mapping projects discovered only about 600 markers and did not fully characterize the structure of all the miscanthus chromosomes, a necessary step in establishing a high-tech plant breeding program.

Ceres Chief Scientific Officer Richard Flavell, PhD, FRS, CBE says that the rapid improvements in breeding made possible by this mapping project are needed for miscanthus to be more widely used as an energy crop. While it has been grown on a small scale across Europe for two decades, primarily for electricity generation, large-scale commercial production is not economically viable at this time due to high production costs and few commercially available miscanthus cultivars.

"By defining the genetic diversity in our germplasm collections with the new DNA markers, we can more rapidly introduce important crop traits into our new, seed-propagated miscanthus products," said Flavell. He explained that unlike the most popular current miscanthus that is vegetatively propagated, Ceres' seeded types are expected to require significantly less time, effort and money to be bred for different environments and to be established by growers. Ceres is currently evaluating its improved seeded miscanthus varieties in multiple locations.

Iain Donnison, PhD, head of the bioenergy team at IBERS, notes that, in addition to its use in developing new products, the mapping project has provided greater insight into how the miscanthus genome compares to other well-understood crop plants. Previously, most miscanthus research had been focused on field trials, and little was known about its genetics.

"The joint miscanthus development programme with Ceres has provided new insight into the evolution of the species as well as the similarities and differences in populations across different countries and environments," said Donnison. "This rich library of information took decades to produce in other crops, but with modern biology and genomics technology Ceres and IBERS have put together what I believe is one of the world's most comprehensive marker-based breeding programs in miscanthus."

The collaborative research received funding as part of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (BSBEC). This innovative academic-industry research partnership underpins development in the important and emerging bioenergy sector. Both Ceres and IBERS are contributing members of BSBEC.

Professor Douglas Kell, Chief Executive of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, noted: "This partnership between academia and industry makes a significant contribution towards achieving sustainable feed-stocks for renewable energy and other bio derived products. A genetic map paves the way toward breeding improvements to increase the amount of sunlight captured, the amount of carbon that can be assimilated over a growing season and the partitioning of the carbon in harvested biomass. This research is an important step towards improving yields for bio feed-stocks without increasing inputs."

"The collaboration between IBERS and Ceres is a great example of how industry and academia can work together to increase the commercial potential of the UK's research resources, both at home and internationally," said Kell.

Interview with Margaret and Dwight Peterson Continued | signs of life

The first part of my interview with Margaret and Dwight Peterson about their book, Are You Waiting for ?The One??, can be found here.
__________________________________

Are You Waiting for "The One"? byt Margaret Kim Peterson and Dwight N Peterson

In contrast to concealing the truth, you devote one chapter to friendship within marriage. ?While you acknowledge that friendship hasn?t always been seen as an important or even expected part of the marriage relationship, you do advocate being intentional about cultivating a friendship between partners. ?Why is this important? ?And what have you seen hinder marital friendship?

We do value friendship in marriage (and our own friendship in our marriage), in large part because life and marriage are a lot more fun when you?re friends with your marriage partner. It is fun to enjoy the company of your spouse, to know (and be known by) him or her more deeply as the years go by, to accumulate a shared history of work and play and conversation, to cultivate a maturing appreciation of the things that led you to marry this person and of things you had no idea characterized your mate when you married him or her.

Something that increasingly hinders friendship of any kind is an unwillingness (or inability) to pay attention to another person for any sustained period of time. We live in an increasingly distracted and distracting culture in which we?re surrounded at all times by dozens of competing claims on our attention?TV, computers, cell phones, digital devices of all kinds. No one who is glued to a screen or a keypad is in a position to be a friend or have a friend.

Churches will occasionally hold marriage conferences or feature sermons about marriage. ?What are other ways that churches can provide nurture for the kinds of marriages you envision in this book? ?Alongside that question, how do churches support marriages without seeming to lift the married life up as the goal and standard in contrast to singleness.

?Something that increasingly hinders friendship of any kind is an unwillingness (or inability) to pay attention to another person for any sustained period of time.?

It might seem counterintuitive, but we think one way to nurture marriages is to talk less about marriage per se, and more about relationships more generally, and the qualities of character (kindness, patience, helpfulness, honesty, empathy, reliability) that can help to sustain and deepen relationships. In our class, we often assign a book about the fruit of the Spirit, and we?ve had students say that they wondered why such a book was assigned in a class on marriage?what, they wondered, did the fruit of the Spirit have to do with marriage? Then they read the book, and listened to us talk about it, and thought, Oh, I get it now. Marriage isn?t something different from loving relationship; marriage is a species of loving relationship, and anything that fosters a person?s ability to be in relationship will foster that person?s ability to be married well.

Which speaks to the second part of your question: both single persons and married persons are equally called to faithful Christian relationship. Some of the specifics are different for singles and for married persons, but fundamentally, these are just different ways to be a Christian, and neither is intrinsically better than the other?each has its own challenges and its own rewards. Acknowledgement of this from the pulpit, along with efforts to foster relationships of a variety of kinds among church members, can go a long way toward supporting both single and married persons in their various relationships (including the marital relationships of married persons).

This makes me think about your chapter on families in which you identify four characteristics of Christian families: hospitality, compassion, justice, and reconciliation. ?Our adoption by God changes how we think about family, yet it?s easy to define ourselves through the expected categories of single, married, and family (once children come along). ?How might a church push against the division created by these categories such that each person expects to experience and participate in the characteristics of Christian families?

The efforts made by some churches to offer ?ministries? to singles, couples, and ?families? (usually defined as parents and young children) can have the unfortunate effect of making segregation by age and stage of life seem normal and desirable. We think this is really impoverishing, and would far prefer that churches make an effort to create opportunities for differences (like age and life stage) to be bridged rather than reinforced. One strategy for helping this happen that we?ve employed in our own life is that we try to make sure we have friends in every decade above and below us. We?re both 50 now, so that means we try to cultivate friendships with older friends (in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s) and with younger friends (in their 40s, 30s, 20s, teens, and childhood). The older we get, the more intentional we have to be about making new young friends. When we were younger, it was the older friends we had to be more intentional about seeking out. At any age, it?s been really enriching, and has really helped us to experience the whole church as a family, not just those members of it who happened to be at a similar place in life.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful responses. ?I?ll end with a final question. ?From your vantage point of years and experiences, what do you most hope your college students will consider as they ponder marriage at some point in their futures?

We hope that our students will be able to engage both their hearts and their heads as they consider whether they will choose to marry at all, and whom they might want to choose as a partner in the married life. And, we hope that they will approach the whole subject of marriage with confidence that they can make good choices, and find great satisfaction and enjoyment in their lives and relationships. Marriage can be a great blessing?to marriage partners, to families and children, to churches and to social and political communities. It?s not the only good way to live the Christian life, but it is a good way, when it?s done faithfully and lovingly.

Brazil to bring first charges over dictatorship violence

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian prosecutors said on Tuesday they would file charges against a retired colonel over the disappearance of five guerrillas during the 1964-1985 military dictatorship, the first such case to be brought against any military officer from that era.

Rights group Human Rights Watch said the decision was a "landmark step for accountability in Brazil".

The charges will be brought against Colonel Sebastiao Curio Rodrigues de Moura, who commanded troops that carried out the kidnapping and torture of five members of the Araguaia guerrilla movement in the Amazon that was fighting to impose communism, federal prosecutors said in a statement.

The colonel, then a major and known simply as Curio, was a notorious and ruthless figure from the dictatorship which began after a military coup. He took over the running of the region in the Amazon where his troops were stationed and earned a fortune overseeing artisanal mining.

The prosecutors said Curio's troops kidnapped the five Araguaia combatants in 1974 and tortured them at military bases under his command.

The five were never seen again.

"The violent conduct of kidnapping, assaulting and executing opponents of the military government regime, though carried out under the pretext they constituted measures to re-establish national peace, consisted of thoroughly criminal acts, violating human rights and legal order," the prosecutors said.

The charges follow an investigation of the alleged crimes that began in 2009.

Curio, 77, has more recently served as a federal congressman. He could face two to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Brazil's military dictatorship was less murderous than those in Argentina and Chile, but the country's leadership has been criticized for the timid steps it has taken to shed light on state crimes of that era and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"The decision by federal prosecutors to bring charges against a retired military officer for grave abuses committed in the 1970s is a landmark step for accountability in Brazil," Human Rights Watch said in a statement.

AMNESTY LAW

Military personnel have escaped punishment for dictatorship-era crimes due to an amnesty law enacted before democracy was restored.

But a 2010 ruling on the Araguaia kidnappings by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights said Brazil must investigate the crimes and identify and punish those responsible.

There has been growing momentum in Brazil to repeal the amnesty law, with the fate of many disappeared still unknown. Around 475 people are estimated to have been killed or disappeared never to be seen again during the dictatorship.

The issue is a delicate one for Dilma Rousseff, Brazil's first woman president, who was herself a left-wing combatant during the dictatorship and was subjected to torture at the hands of the military during three years of imprisonment.

There is strong resistance among the military against repealing the law. The military says its actions saved Brazil from a communist revolution, and Rousseff has been careful to avoid creating the perception she is out to avenge the wrongs she suffered.

Prosecutors say the 1979 amnesty law is not applicable in the case of the five combatants because no information had been offered about their fate and their bodies had not been found.

The five disappeared, three men and two woman, were named as Maria Celia Correa, Helio Luiz Navarro Magalhaes, Daniel Ribeiro Callado, Antonio de Padua Costa and Telma Regina Cordeira Correa.

Acute bronchitis is common during the winter and does not last for a long time. A viral or a
bacterial infection or both usually follows this condition. This disorder does not require any
special treatment. It clears within a couple of weeks; however, the cough may persist for a
longer time. There is a danger of acute bronchitis leading to pneumonia.
Elderly people, young children, and babies are the common victims of acute bronchitis. The
immune systems of infants and young children are still in the growing phase, and this makes
them susceptible to the disease while the immune systems of old people are weakened with
age. Smokers and people who already have a lung or heart ailment stand the risk of

Insurance Industry: Trust Us, Global Warming Is Real | JunkScience ...

Insurance industry leaders went before Congress on Friday to ask for increased federal support for the costs of destructive global warming.

From their perspective, there is no question whether or not climate change is real.
Here are some quotes posted by Insurance Networking News:

?From our industry?s perspective, the footprints of climate change are around us and the trend of increasing damage to property and threat to lives is clear,? said Franklin Nutter, president of the Reinsurance Association of America.

Cynthia McHale, the insurance program director at Ceres, issued a more unequivocal statement: ?Our climate is changing, human activity is helping to drive the change, and the costs of these extreme weather events are going to keep ballooning unless we break through our political paralysis, and bring down emissions that are warming our planet. If we continue on this path, extreme weather is certain to cause more homes and businesses to be uninsurable in the private insurance market, leaving the costs to taxpayers or individuals.?

Last year saw a record 14 natural disasters causing more than $1 billion in damage each.
